A collaborative project with Jeremy Rhoades and Aaron Rhoades.
As children in the 90's - the "good ol' days" of video games, we had written down ideas about video games we'd like to develop when we're grown. Now it's twenty years later, and I'm a designer and they're both web developers. We decided to make those dreams a reality.
The first thing we're tackling is the style. 8-bit was pretty much the only way when we were growing up, and it seemed like EVERYTHING was a 1-player side-scrolling platform game. Above is a tileset for an "ancient ruins" map, which we think our 10-year-old selves would have insisted on.
We're pulling from many inspirational games we played when we were kids. The art from Sonic games was largely influential in this damaged accordion bot.
The game is Powerbots (a name decided upon in 1999-ish). The goal is....well. Still a work in progress. Stay tuned as we learn what we're doing.
